Welcome to Second Grade in Room 211!

Dear Room 211 Families,

Can you believe the new school year has begun already? Despite the summer temperatures and humidity, we had a fantastic start to our second grade year. :) We have made new friends, greeted old friends and become a host classroom for two young gerbils. We are so excited!

As the next few weeks unfold the bulk of our learning will be centered on classroom routines, behavioral expectations and social skills. As we begin our academic subjects, we will review many of the skills learned in first grade to help us transition to the grade two curriculum.

As you know by now, your child has been issued a homework folder for transporting parent/teacher communication and homework. Please be sure that your child shows you his/her folder each afternoon to help them build a routine with you about homework responsibilities and expectations.
Homework will be sent home in a 'packet' style where children will take home all of their weekly homework (except math) in one stapled packet and should be returned by the end of that week. In the next week you will receive a letter about homework expectations. There will be two copies of the letter: one for you to keep at home and one for you and your child to sign and return to school.

I hope you and your child have enjoyed the first few days of school. I look forward to many more! Thank you for being a partner in your child's education and I look forward to meeting you at Open House on September 23.

Stay cool!
Miss Varrell
